Description:

The front cover of this exceptional quality antique notebook is ivory covered with silver. The back cover is ivory. The silver has a lot of hallmarks, see below.* The spine is velvet and the interior is lined with silk moire. A pencil with a lead tip slides into the silk loops on the side to hold it closed. There is a gusseted silk pocket on the inside front cover and it has the original and intact pad of paper with silk covers and gold edges. The center pages are erasable cardboard with the days of the week (in French).

The condition is excellent with no dents in the silver and no chips or cracks in the ivory. The interior linings are perfect and it looks like it was never really used. The ivory has a gorgeous patina and it measures 3 7/8" high by 2 1/2" wide.

*The silver edges, front and back, are stamped with the French boar's head hallmarks for 800/1000 pure silver. They also have the maker's marks for Jacob Triefus and Albert Ettlinger. They set up business in Paris at 11 rue Chapon in 1854. One edge is marked "Paris" as well as "T & E" (for Triefus & Ettlinger) and "Bte S.G.T.G". Bte stands for Breveté and SGDG stands for "Sans garantie du gouvernement". These are the French patent markings to indicate that the item is protected by a patent for technical specifications (rather than just design or copyright protection).
