Antique Carved Ivory Sewing Kit & Sterling Thimble * C1840

This little antique piece is smoothly carved of ivory in the form of an egg or apple? Inside is a sterling silver (tested) thimble, a packet of needles and a little wrapped bit of sewing thread. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and it closes with a sterling silver latch (also tested). The hinge is also sterling and is strong and original. It measures 1 5/8" high and 1 3/8" in diameter.
The English sterling thimble has a hand engraved rim and band and is also in great condition with no holes, dents or other damage. It is about an American child's size 5 (13.4 mm diameter opening). The needles are by W. Avery & Son....

Antique Silver & Tortoise Shell Serving Fork & Knife * C1890

These beautiful and unusual serving utensils have silver handles and a fork and butter knife made of real tortoise shell. The handles have small French silver hallmarks for 800/1000 pure silver. The handles are embossed with rose and lily designs with acanthus leaf and scallop shell motifs. The knife would be good for butter or a soft cake and the fork for serving olives or pickles.

Antique Carved Ivory Pin Cushion / Disc * C1820

Both sides of this high quality disc style pincushion have been smoothly carved with concentric circles. The condition is excellent with no chips or damage and it has the original rose silk cushion which is intact. The patina and grain are gorgeous and it measures 1 3/8" in diameter.
This style of pincushion allowed the pins to be stuck flush into the material around the cushion's edges so it could be carried in the silk work bags of the day....

Antique Carved Ivory Pin Cushion Clamp * Circa 1830

This little antique clamp is made of ivory and smoothly carved with concentric circles on the end. A green silk pincushion sits on the top. This style of clamp was made in China for English export in the early 19th century.
The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage and the screw holds securely. The silk cushion is also in excellent condition. It measures about 3 1/8" tall with the screw half way in as shown. A very similar clamp is shown on p. 178 of Gay Ann Rogers' book "An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools"....
