Antique Dieppe Carved Ivory Pea Pod Needle Case * French * Circa 1820

This pea pod needlecase is hand carved of ivory and is a nice and rather petite example of this classic design. It is very tactile and realistic and the condition is excellent without any cracks or other damage. It measures 3 1/4" long and the grain and patina are lovely.
They were known to be carved in Dieppe, France. A needlecase of this style is shown on p. 80 of Nerylla Taunton's book Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries....

Antique Carved Ivory Madras Pincushion/Spool Clamp * English * Circa 1820

This beautiful antique clamp is hand carved of ivory and has a lovely old patina and grain pattern. It's English and dates to the early 19th century. The top has a red velvet pincushion and it looks to be the original cushion, though missing most of the nap. Below that is a spool that removes when the pincushion is unscrewed. The pincushion is decorated around the top with Madras circles and dots.
The condition is excellent with no cracks, chips or other damage. The cushion is intact and the clamp screw screws down tightly and holds for the entire length. It measures 6 1/2" tall (with the screw half way in as shown)....

Ornately Carved Ivory Antique Sheathed Stiletto * English * Circa 1820

This beautiful stiletto is carved of real ivory (not bone) with a pineapple style finial and a variety of designs through the center. It reverses to screw into the handle so that the point is protected. It has a glowing original patina and nice ivory grain. The condition of the ivory is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage.
The point is nice and sharp and it screws together perfectly in both directions. It measures 3 5/8" long closed and 4 1/2" open....

Antique Carved Ivory Madras Needle Case * English * Circa 1820

This nice little antique piece is engraved with patterns of Madras work dots and circles around the sides. It's a form of scrimshaw work where black lacquer is flowed into the engraved designs. It's carved of real ivory and has a lovely mellow patina and ivory grain.
It has a little rubbing but the overall condition is excellent with no chips or cracks. It measures 3 1/4" long and screws together securely. It's English and dates to the early 19th century. A variety of Madras work needlework tools are shown on p. 87 of Nerylla Taunton's book Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries....

Vintage Carved Ivory Thimble by John von Hoelle

This unusual thimble was hand carved of ivory by Jon von Hoelle. It is the thimble shown on p. 126 (#574) of his book the New International Edition of "Thimbles Collector's Encyclopedia". He says (on p. 123) that he had carved about 100 of these, all different. He shows some of them on pp. 126 and 231. The book was published in 1986 so that helps date this piece. The collection I'm selling it from bought 4 from him.
