Antique Ivory Madras Work Emery Cushion * C1820
This nice little piece is carved of ivory and has a beautiful old patina and ivory grain pattern. One side is engraved with the circle and dot designs known as Madras work. It's a form of scrimshaw work where black lacquer is flowed into the engraved designs. It's English and dates to the early 19th century. The back has the script word "Emery". The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. The blue silk cushion is original and intact and it's stuffed with emery powder. It measures almost 1" in diameter. Classic Antique Carved Ivory Tambour Crochet Hook * C1820
This antique tambour hook is hand turned and carved and has a beautiful old patina and ivory grain pattern. It has a steel collar and thumb screw and the top unscrews to reveal a storage compartment for holding the hooks (There are 2 small steel hooks). The condition is excellent with no chips or other damage. Everything screws together securely and the thumb screw tightens properly to hold the hook. It measures 5 1/2" long when closed. A similar ivory tambour hook is shown on p. 74 of Nerylla Taunton's book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries"....

Antique Flower Top Carved Ivory Crochet Hook * C1850
This pretty little crochet hook is carved of real ivory and the top is carved with a nicely detailed flower. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage and it was purchased in England. It measures almost 6" long and has nice ivory grain and patina. The hook is about the same size as an American size D (3.00 mm). A couple of ivory sewing tools with this same flower motif are shown on p. 88 of Nerylla Taunton's book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries"....

This pretty antique needle or bodkin case is carved of real ivory with an allover basketweave design and flowers at each end. The quality of the carving is fabulous, as is the nice old patina. The condition is excellent and it screws together perfectly. It measures 3 3/4" long and was bought in England....

This antique carved ivory piece is a pin cushion in disc form. This allowed the pins to be pushed flush into the sides so it wouldn't snag other items in the work bag. The cushion around the sides is silk and is stuck with some old hand made steel pins. Both sides are carved with concentric circles and black scrimshaw style inking accentuates the center and border. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. The silk cushion is intact and original. It measures 1 1/8" in diameter and has a silk wrist loop on top. The ivory grain pattern and patina are lovely....

Rare Antique Silver Corset Vesta or Match Safe * Circa 1890
This antique silver plated vesta is in the form of a lady's corset, a bit risqué for the time. The top is hinged and it opens and snaps closes solidly. The striker is at the bottom. The condition is excellent with no dents or other damage and measures 1 5/8" high by 1 3/8" wide. The silver plating is rubbed at the hinge and it looks like it was plated over copper or brass. The side has a ring so it could be attached to a chatelaine or watch chain. The top has faint engraving "L. Turner" but it was hard to photograph. It was bought in England.
