Ornate Antique Carved Ivory Tape Measure * Circa 1840

This gorgeous antique tape measure is hand carved of real ivory. The top has an intricately petaled flower design with serrated edges and the bottom has a beaded border. The pale blue silk ribbon tape is marked in inches and is original (starts at 2"). The top turns to rewind the tape and it works perfectly.
It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage and the patina and ivory grain are lovely. It measures 1 1/4" high and the top is 1" in diameter. It was from an English sewing workbox with matching tools. (See my other website items for the matching thread waxer & emery)...

This lovely piece is made of real ivory and it an extremely rare piece. The top is carved with an intricately petaled flower design and serrated edges and the bottom has a beaded border. It has a gorgeous patina and ivory grain.
It is a combination thread waxer and emery, something I've never seen before. It's from an English sewing workbox and would have been part of a matched set of tools. Usually, in addition to matching spools, the workbox would have had 3 more pieces, a tape measure, a waxer and an emery. Antique Carved Petals Ivory Needle Case * Circa 1830

This lovely antique needle or bodkin case is carved of real ivory and has an all over design of layered petals. The quality of the carving is excellent, as are the ivory grain and patina.

Antique Carved Ivory Madras Work Netting/Winding Clamp * Circa 1820

This antique clamp has a beautiful old patina and is engraved with patterns of Madras work dots and circles around all of the sides. This is a form of scrimshaw work where black lacquer is flowed into the engraved designs.
The top has a vase shaped netting knob and a spool. The finial above the spool unscrews so the spool can be removed. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. The clamp screw holds tightly along the entire length.
It measures 3 7/8" high with the screw half way in. It's English and dates to the early 19th century. A Madras work netting / winding clamp is shown on p. 87 of Nerylla Taunton's book...

Antique Carved Ivory Madras Work Acorn w/ Thimble * Circa 1820

This little antique thimble case is carved of ivory in the form of an acorn and is engraved with patterns of Madras work dots and circles on the top and around the sides. This is a form of scrimshaw work where black lacquer was flowed into the engraved designs.
It unscrews and inside is a tiny silver metal thimble. It's about an American child's size 0-1 (10.6 mm in diameter). It's in great condition with no holes, dents or damage.

Antique Carved Ivory Canton Needle Case * Circa 1820

This ornate needle case is carved of ivory with unusually nice detail and it has a lovely old patina and ivory grain pattern. It's decorated with people going about their daily jobs with an elaborate background of trees and houses. It was carved in China in the early 19th century for an English workbox.
The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. It screws together securely and measures 3 1/8" long. One like this is shown on p. 84 of Nerylla Taunton's book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries"....
