Antique Figural Bone Parasol Needle Case / Crochet Hook * Circa 1900

This figural antique needle case is carved of bone in the shape of a parasol or umbrella. The handle is carved in the form of a hand and holds a glass Stanhope viewer. It has 6 images and is called Recuerdo de La Coruña (Memories of La Coruña). This is a seaside town in Spain and "La Coruña" is also painted on the side of needle case.
The center is nicely carved and pierced and the bottom is also a crochet hook. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage and it screws together securely. Antique Brass Beer Stein Tape Measure & Thimble Holder

This nice antique tape measure is made of brass in the form of a decorative beer stein with raised figures around the sides. The tape is in the bottom and the top flips open to hold a thimble. The woven tape is marked in both centimeters and inches. It is original and complete. It winds back in when the bottom is turned and it works perfectly. The woven tape is marked "LONDON" and "Made in Austria".

This antique vegetable ivory thimble holder is carved in the form of an acorn with pierced designs around the sides. The bone finial contains a Stanhope viewer with six views entitled "A Memory of Teignmouth". Teignmouth is a coastal town in South Devon (England). The Stanhope has a bubble of glue but most is readable. Inside is a tall sterling silver English thimble. The band is embossed with flowers and diamond waffle punches. It has the English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1888 and the maker's mark for Henry Griffith & Sons. Antique Mother Of Pearl Workbox Tape Measure English * Circa 1850

This little antique tape measure has a mother of pearl top carved with a central flower like design with a roundel scalloped border. The bottom and sides have a nicely turned design. It has the complete and original red silk ribbon tape (36" long) and the original stop. The tape winds back in by turning the mother of pearl top and works well.
The condition is excellent with no cracks, chips or loss. It measures 1" high and the top is 1" in diameter. The mother of pearl has very nice luminescence. It was once part of an English workbox. Antique Mother of Pearl & Turquoise Workbox Spool English * Circa 1850

The top of this luminous Victorian spool holder is carved of mother of pearl. It has a flower design on the top surrounded by a wide engine turned border. The center is set with a turquoise cabochon. Both the top and bottom unscrew to allow a ball of thread to be slipped on. The bottom and center post are made of bone.
The condition is excellent with no chips or cracks. It measures 1 3/8" high by 1 1/4" in diameter and was once part of an English workbox. Some reels of this type are shown on p. 161 of Gay Ann Rogers' book "An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools" and the style of workbox they would be from is shown on p. 36....

Antique Mother of Pearl Workbox Thread Waxer * English * Circa 1850

The top of this early Victorian thread waxer is made of mother of pearl in the form of a flower with pierced scalloped edges. The bottom is turned bone. Some nacre layers in the center have a little separation but the overall condition is excellent and it still has the original wax. The mother of pearl is very luminous and it unscrews so the wax could be changed.
It measures almost 1" high and the top is 1" in diameter. It was once part of an English workbox set of tools. Some similar waxers are shown on p. 136 of Gay Ann Rogers' book An Illustrated History of Needlework Tool and she shows the style of workbox it would have been part of...
