Carved Antique Ivory Sheathed Stiletto * English * Circa 1820

This little stiletto is beautifully carved of real ivory. It reverses to screw into the handle so that the point is protected. It has a nice old patina. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or loss and it screws together perfectly in both directions. It measures almost 2 1/2" long closed and 3" open. A slightly plainer example is shown in its workbox on p. 102 of Nerylla Taunton's book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries"....

Antique Carved Ivory Acorn Tape Measure * English * C1800

This little antique tape measure is carved of ivory in the form of an acorn. The top has turned rings and the sides are smooth. The top has some surface scratches or perhaps ivory flaws, but they don't go through. The condition is otherwise excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. It measures 1 1/4" long.
It has a thin blue silk ribbon tape that has been marked in inches. The tape is complete and a yard long. The ivory stop on the tape is original. The turned finial on top turns to wind the tape back in and it works perfectly....

Antique Madras Work Ivory Emery Cushion * Circa 1820

This nice little piece is hand carved of ivory. Both sides are engraved with very fine circle and dot designs known as Madras work. It's a form of scrimshaw work where black lacquer is flowed into the engraved designs. It's English and dates to the early 19th century.
Aside from a small chip at the edge on one side, the condition is excellent with no other damage. This one is especially nice because the maker went overboard on her ribbon decoration at the top. Usually there's just a tab or small bow. The silk cushion and bows are original and it's stuffed with emery powder. The cushion measures about 1" in diameter. A variety of ivory...

Antique Carved Ivory C Style Pincushion Clamp * Circa 1820

This beautiful antique clamp is hand carved of ivory and has a lovely old patina and grain pattern. It's English and dates to the early 19th century. The top has a red velvet pincushion and it looks to be the original cushion.
Aside from a couple of small hairline surface cracks, the condition is excellent with no chips or loss. The cushion is intact and the screw screws down tightly and holds for the entire length. It measures 4 3/4" tall (with the screw half way in as shown). This clamp is shown in plate 75 of Sylvia Groves' book "The History of Needlework Tool And Accessories"....

Antique Carved Bone Pincushion * English * Circa 1870

This antique pin cushion is nicely carved of bone with pierced sides and a ruffled rim. It sits on a pedestal foot and has the original beige velvet cushion. The base is 1" in diameter and it's about 2 1/8" high.
Aside from a hairline crack at the bottom edge (see arrow), the condition is excellent and the cushion still has most of the velvet nap intact....

Wonderful Antique Ivory & Silver Note Book & Pencil * French * C1860s

The front cover of this exceptional quality antique notebook is ivory covered with silver. The back cover is ivory. The silver has a lot of hallmarks, see below.* The spine is velvet and the interior is lined with silk moire. A pencil with a lead tip slides into the silk loops on the side to hold it closed. There is a gusseted silk pocket on the inside front cover and it has the original and intact pad of paper with silk covers and gold edges. The center pages are erasable cardboard with the days of the week (in French).
