Antique Carved Ivory Canton Needle Case * Circa 1830
This ornate needle case is carved of ivory with beautiful detail and it has a lovely old patina and grain pattern. It's decorated with birds and butterflies on a cloud background. The top is in the form of a sunflower. It was carved in China in the early 19th century for an English workbox. The condition is excellent with no chips or other damage and it screws together perfectly. It measures 2 5/8" long. This style of needle case is shown on p. 84 of Nerylla Taunton's book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries"....

Antique Figural Ivory Fretwork Urn Pin Cushion * C1800
This lacy disc style pin cushion is carved of ivory in the form of a little vase or urn on a pedestal. Both sides have a pierced design and it has a lovely old patina and ivory grain pattern. A silk ribbon forms the cushion around the sides and it is intact and original. It dates to the early 19th century and measures 1 1/2" wide by 1 1/2" high. Some pincushions in this style are shown on p. 143 of Gay Ann Rogers' book "The Illustrated History of Needlework Tools"....

Antique Carved Ivory Egg With Ivory Child's Thimble * C1840
This little antique egg is smoothly carved of real ivory as is the thimble inside. It unscrews in the middle and screws securely closed, but you have to fiddle a bit to get the threads lined up properly. It's excellent condition with no cracks or loss and it measures almost 1 3/8" long and 7/8" in diameter. The thimble is in great condition with no damage. It is about an American child's size 4-5 (12.7 mm diameter opening). The patina and ivory grain on both pieces is lovely....

This charming stiletto is carved from a solid piece of real ivory with leaf like designs and beaded borders. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. It was bought in England and is very substantial, measuring 3 3/8" long. It has a lovely old patina and ivory grain....

This little piece is a gem. It's a folding pen knife carved in the form of a lady's leg with carved details for her toes. A knife like this is shown on p. 29 of the Shire book "Penknives and Other Folding Knives" by Simon Moore. He says that it was said to be modeled on Lady Ilchester's leg and dates to c. 1870. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. The little blade is sharp and closes nicely with a snap. It is stamped "William Newbould Celebrated" on one side and "Plenty" with a sythe on the other. It measures a petite 2 1/2" long closed and 3 3/4" open....

Antique Pinchbeck Scissors Case w/ Child's Scissors * C1750
This rare little case is shaped like the scissors it was made to hold. It is made of Pinchbeck or gilded brass and has a ring to attach it to a chatelaine or chain. Both sides have embossed scrolling designs surrounding the bust of a Renaissance lady. Inside is a tiny pair of steel scissors (2 3/8" long). They are in nice condition with no rust and they cut well. These are children's scissors and adult fingers do not fit in the bows. The condition of the case is excellent with no dents or damage and no loss of gilding. It measures 3 1/2" long, not including the ring and it closes securely.
