This beautifully shaped French case is carved from a solid piece of real ivory with precise spaces for each tool. The tools include a pair of scissors, stiletto, needle case, bodkin and a thimble. The tools are all gilded silver and have the French boar's head hallmarks for 800/1000 pure silver made in Paris. They have delicate engraved scrolling designs. The scissors have tight blades, sharp points and cut very well. They are 3 1/2" long. Antique Carved Dieppe Ivory Thread Waxer * C1820
This beautiful little ivory disc style waxer has a finely carved floral bouquet on the top and the bottom is turned. It was carved by the ivory carvers in Dieppe, France. The detail is gorgeous. The ivory is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage and it measures 7/8" in diameter. A similar example is shown on p. 80 of Nerylla Taunton's book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries"....

Antique Carved Ivory Heart Shaped Canton Pin Cushion * C1820
This little antique disc style pin cushion is carved of real ivory in the form of a heart. It is carved in the Canton style showing Oriental people and landscape designs (different on each side). It has a beautiful old patina and grain pattern and was made in China for British import. The cushion is red silk and intact. The design is pierced with a flower like design in the background and the red under lining shows through. There is a small edge chip on one side but it's pretty minimal. This beautiful etui is made of wood that's been covered with panels of natural tortoiseshell. It's very high quality with real ivory covering the inside edges and mother of pearl and abalone floral inlay on the top and front. The bottom is even covered with tortoise. The fitted interior contains a sterling silver thimble, perfume bottle, mother of pearl stiletto, pen knife & file, steel scissors & bodkin, an ivory lead pencil and a built in silk pincushion. A lucet was a tool for making a braided cord that could be used for trim or lacing. This is a rare one, carved of real ivory with a pierced handle. It's in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage. The patina and ivory grain are lovely. It dates to the late 18th century and measures 4 1/2" tall by 2 1/8" wide. Antique Figural Ivory Fretwork Urn Pin Cushion * C1800
This lacy disc style pin cushion is carved of ivory in the form of a little vase or urn on a pedestal. Both sides have a pierced design and it has a lovely old patina and ivory grain pattern. A silk ribbon forms the cushion around the sides and it is intact and original. It dates to the early 19th century and measures 1 1/2" wide by 1 1/2" high. Some pincushions in this style are shown on p. 143 of Gay Ann Rogers' book "The Illustrated History of Needlework Tools"....
