This wonderful needlecase has been the star of my collection for many years. It is shown in the banner I use on my eBay store. It is multi colored gold and set with 20 cabochon turquoises. The body is red gold with applied green gold leaves and the turquoises are used in the flower centers.
It's solid 18 Caret gold (tested) and can be dated to the year 1838. It's unusual in that it has the ram's head hallmark for Parisian gold used between 1819-1838 and the eagle's head hallmarks used from 1838-1846. It was obviously made in the year when the hallmarks changed, 1838. The condition is fabulous with no dents, splits, repairs or other damage and it measures slightly over 3" long. The turquoises are all intact and original. It fits together snugly and weighs 9.7 grams.
