This nice antique tape measure is made of brass in the form of a decorative beer stein with raised figures around the sides. The tape is in the bottom and the top flips open to hold a thimble. The woven tape is marked in both centimeters and inches. It is original and complete. It winds back in when the bottom is turned and it works perfectly. The woven tape is marked "LONDON" and "Made in Austria".
The stein measures 1 7/8" high and the base is almost 1" in diameter. In the top is a lovely silver thimble from Germany. It is marked "800" for 800/100 pure silver and the top has the 6 petal mark for Lotthammer. The rim is embossed and the band has a pretty scrolling floral design. It's in great condition, crisp and in round with no holes or damage and is about an American size 6 (14 mm diameter opening). The condition of the stein is also excellent with a nice old patina and no dents or damage. The bottom is stamped with a maker's mark. One like this is shown on p. 138 of "Collecting Figural Tape Measures" by Arbittier & Morphy.
