This small antique stiletto is carved of ivory and has a nice old patina and grain pattern. The stiletto unscrews and reverses to screw back into the handle so that the point is protected. It has been engraved with a Madras work dot pattern. It's a form of scrimshaw work where lacquer is flowed into the engraved designs.

It's early 19th century English and is in excellent condition with no cracks or other damage. It screws together securely in both directions and measures 2 1/2" long closed and 3 1/4" open. A similar one is shown on p. 87 of Nerylla Taunton's book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries".
