This early antique tape measure is carved of ivory in the form of a little barrel. The silk tape is marked in 'nails' and is complete (a yard long). A 'nail' represented 2 1/4" or 1/16th of a yard and was an early measuring system found on older English tape measures. The spindle on top turns to rewind the tape and it works well.
It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage and the natural ivory grain is lovely. It measures 1 3/8" high and 5/8" in diameter.
