This gorgeous piece is the most amazing and highest quality piece of silver filigree work I've every seen. It is solid sterling silver (tested) that has been gilded and handmade of delicate filigree. The front is set with turquoises and a pearl. It's English and dates to the late 18th or early 19th century. The catch at the bottom flips up and allows the notebook to swivel open. The pages are carved of ivory and there are 15 of them, all perfect and with lovely ivory grain patterns. A filigree channel at the side holds a wooden pencil with a turquoise and ruby set top. It has never been sharpened or used. The latch works well and closes it securely.
The filigree is perfect with no breaks or loss. It's rare to find a piece of early filigree in this condition. It measures 3 1/4" by 2" and is very heavy and solid (weighs 87.7 grams). I collect silver filigree sewing tools (and pieces with turquoises) and this one is from my collection.
