This wonderful old knotting shuttle was used for making a knotted trim popular with French and English ladies between 1750 and 1800. It's carved from natural tortoise shell and held together with rivets. The post is matching shell. Both sides are inlaid with sterling silver in a floral design with a lacy border.
There are a few tiny losses in the silver inlay, but the condition of the tortoise shell is excellent with no chips or other damage. It measures 4 3/8" long by 1 1/8" wide. It glows with patina and the shell has wonderful patterns when held to the light. The postage shown includes Registered shipping for non US addresses and insured shipping within the US.
