This little antique piece is smoothly carved of ivory in the form of an egg or apple? Inside is a sterling silver (tested) thimble, a packet of needles and a little wrapped bit of sewing thread. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and it closes with a sterling silver latch (also tested). The hinge is also sterling and is strong and original. It measures 1 5/8" high and 1 3/8" in diameter.

The English sterling thimble has a hand engraved rim and band and is also in great condition with no holes, dents or other damage. It is about an American child's size 5 (13.4 mm diameter opening). The needles are by W. Avery & Son.
