This pea pod needlecase is hand carved of ivory and is a nice example of this classic design. It is very tactile and realistic. There are some very minor nicks at the opening edge but the condition is otherwise excellent without any cracks or other damage. It measures 3 3/4" long and the grain and patina are lovely.
They were known to be carved in Dieppe, France. A needlecase of this style is shown on p. 80 of Nerylla Taunton's book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries".
