This little stiletto is carved of real ivory with leafy, fluted and beaded designs through the center. It reverses to screw into the handle so that the point is protected. It has the original patina and nice ivory grain.

The condition of the ivory is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. It screws together perfectly in both directions. It measures 2 3/4" long closed and 3 5/8" open. Some ivory pieces with similar carving are are shown on p. 88 of Nerylla Taunton's book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries" and she says they may have been carved in India for English export in the early 19th century.
