This beautiful antique clamp is hand carved of real ivory and has a lovely old patina and grain pattern. It's English and dates to the early 19th century. The sides are in a C form and the screw has a fat turned knob. The top has a red velvet pincushion.
Other than a repaired crack at the base of the pincushion, the condition is excellent with no chips or other damage. The cushion is intact and the screw screws down tightly and holds for the entire length. It measures 4 1/2" tall (with the screw half way in as shown) and the 'C' is 2 1/4" wide. This clamp is shown in plate 75 of Sylvia Groves' book "The History of Needlework Tool And Accessories".
