This antique knotting shuttle is carved from beautifully patterned natural tortoiseshell. It was used for making a knotted trim popular with French and English ladies between 1750 and 1800. It's held together with brass rivets and measures 3 1/2" long by 1" wide.
It has some surface wear, but the overall condition is excellent with no chips and cracks. It is sturdy with no wobble and intact, rounded tips and was bought in England.
