This pea pod needlecase is hand carved of ivory and is a nice and rather petite example of this classic design. It is very tactile and realistic and the condition is excellent without any cracks or other damage. It measures 3 1/4" long and the grain and patina are lovely.

They were known to be carved in Dieppe, France. A needlecase of this style is shown on p. 80 of Nerylla Taunton's book Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries.
