This wonderful ivory needle case was all hand carved by the famous carvers of Dieppe, France in the late 18th or early 19th century. It is carved all around with grapes and grape vines. Fine beading is around the top, bottom and middle. It screws together perfectly. The fineness and detail are outstanding and the patina and ivory grain are lovely.
The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. There isn't the tiniest chip in the delicately carved leaves and fruit. It measures 3 5/8" long. Nerylla Taunton shows a variety of Dieppe carved sewing pieces on p. 80 of her book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries".
