This fabulous needle case was all hand carved by the famous carvers of Dieppe, France at the turn of the 19th century. It’s in an unusual flat, rectangular form and is carved on every surface with tiny flowers of several varieties. The detail is outstanding and it has a lovely patina and ivory grain.
The condition is perfect with no chips, cracks or other damage. It measures 2 3/4″ long. Nerylla Taunton shows a variety of Dieppe carved sewing pieces on p. 80 of her book “Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries”.
