This antique needle or bodkin case is made of natural tortoise shell and is inlaid on both sides with flowers, leaves and a medallion in sterling silver. Hand engraved silver bands are at the opening.
The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or loss of inlay and it closes securely. It measures slightly over 2 3/4″ long and was bought in England. A similar example is shown on p. 97 of “Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries” by Nerylla Taunton.
