Antique Carved Ivory Dieppe Pin Cushion / Disc * French * Circa 1800-20

This gorgeous ivory disc style pin cushion is skillfully carved on the top with a variety of exotic flowers. The bottom disc is beautifully shaped with concentric circles. It has a lovely old patina and ivory grain pattern and was carved by the skilled artisans of Dieppe, France in the early 19th century. Pins were stuck in the “sandwich” felted cushion around the center. It has several very old coil headed pins.

It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage and it measures 1 3/4″ in diameter. The detail is outstanding. A similar pin disc is shown on p. 80 of Nerylla Taunton’s book Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries.
