Antique Carved Ivory Box w/ Thimble * Canton Export * Circa 1820
This round ivory thimble holder was made in Canton, China for export to England in the early 19th century. The sides and top are elaborately carved with people, foliage and landscapes. It measures 7/8″ high and 1″ in diameter. It has a nice patina and a gorgeous ivory grain pattern. It unscrews and inside is a small ivory thimble with a carved band.
It screws together perfectly and the condition is excellent with no cracks, chips or other damage. The little thimble is 5/8″ high and about an American child’s size 4 (12.6 mm diameter opening). It is also in great condition.
