This gorgeous ivory disc style pin cushion is skillfully carved on one side with a variety of flowers and on the other side with a full blooming rose. It has a lovely old patina and was carved by the skilled artisans of Dieppe, France in the early 19th century. Pins were stuck in the “sandwich” velvet cushion around the center.
It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage and it measures 1 1/4″ in diameter. The detail is outstanding. A variety of Dieppe sewing tools in this style are shown on p. 80 of Nerylla Taunton’s book “Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries”.
