Antique Miniature Ivory Sliding Needle Case * French * Circa 1830

This tiny needle case is carved of real ivory. It’s a miniature version of a popular needle case style at the beginning of the 19th century. The top has a scallop shell as the thumb-piece and it slides back to access the needles inside. The patina and ivory grain are lovely.

The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. It measures almost 1 5/8″ by 1/2″ and slides smoothly. Nerylla Taunton shows a sliding needle case in this style on p. 89 of her book Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries This must have been made for a child.
