Antique Tortoise Shell Cased Crochet Hook Set * Circa 1850
This special set of steel crochet hooks is in wooden box that had been veneered with real natural tortoise shell. The opening is veneered with ivory and ivory forms the shelf that holds the hooks. The cartouche on the top (not personalized) and the hinge and push button and all sterling silver (tested). The handle is carved of mother of pearl and has a brass mechanism on the end that the steel crochet hooks fit into. It then screws down to secure them and it works well. Antique Carved Ivory Pin Cushion / Disc * Circa 1820

Antique Carved Ivory Pin Cushion / Disc * Circa 1820
This antique carved ivory piece is a pin cushion in disc form. This allowed the pins to be pushed flush into the sides so it wouldn't snag other items in the work bag. The cushion around the sides is silk and is stuck with some old hand made steel pins. Both sides are carved with concentric circles and black scrimshaw style inking accentuates the center and border. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. The silk cushion is intact and original. It measures 1 1/8" in diameter and has a silk wrist loop on top. The ivory grain pattern and patina are lovely....

Rare Antique Silver Corset Vesta or Match Safe * Circa 1890

Rare Antique Silver Corset Vesta or Match Safe * Circa 1890
This antique silver plated vesta is in the form of a lady's corset, a bit risqué for the time. The top is hinged and it opens and snaps closes solidly. The striker is at the bottom. The condition is excellent with no dents or other damage and measures 1 5/8" high by 1 3/8" wide. The silver plating is rubbed at the hinge and it looks like it was plated over copper or brass. The side has a ring so it could be attached to a chatelaine or watch chain. The top has faint engraving "L. Turner" but it was hard to photograph. It was bought in England. One like this is shown on p. 90 of Eugene & Christine Sanders' book Pocket Matchsafes and they ...

Antique Mother Of Pearl Palais Royal Greyhound Needle Case * C18

Antique Mother Of Pearl Palais Royal Greyhound Needle Case * C18
This exceptional French needlecase is one of the rare figural examples. It's carved in the form of a sleek crouching greyhound with a curling tail. The details are beautifully done and it measures 4" long by about 7/8" wide. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage and it fits together snugly. He has a circular inset on his shoulder (when facing left), but I suspect this was done by the original carver. I can't think of any damage in this particular spot that someone could have been repairing and it was more likely to replace a flawed spot in the mother of pearl. The postage shown includes Registered shipping for...
