This rare and unusual little antique workbox is made of wood, covered with black lacquer and lavishly inlaid with mother of pearl and abalone scenes on almost every surface. The top has a scene with a cockerel and hen with chrysanthemums in the background. The mother of pearl has been under painted with color and fine line details and is stunning. The front, back and sides all have different floral designs, as do the inside of the top and the lid that covers an interior compartment. This antique workbox has been in my collection for almost 20 years. It is made of darkly stained coromandel wood. The top and front have delicate and lacy inlaid mother of pearl, abalone and engraved brass marquetry. The interior has the original royal blue silk lining and the tool tray has 2 built in pincushions. There are 2 silk needle books with wool pages fitted into their slots. Compartments in the back hold 7 matching mother of pearl spools. The lift out tool pad has steel scissors, a steel bodkin, a mother of pearl handled crochet hook, ribbon puller and stiletto. This fabulous antique is carved of horn and combines a needle case and thimble holder. The variety of patterns and quality of the carving is amazing. The thimble case unscrews from the needle case and holds an English sterling silver thimble (tested). It has an appled scrolling band and is in excellent condition, in round with no holes, repairs or other damage. It has a shield cartouche (not personalized) and is about an American size 9.

Petite Antique Velvet Purse w/ Silver Coin Top * Hlmk1887

This very unusual purse has a velvet bag (original) and a silver frame at the top. The top has been created using an actual silver coin, a George IV silver Sovereign dated 1821. The silver frame has the English sterling hallmark for Birmingham 1887 and the maker's mark for Joseph Whitten. It has writing around the edge and fits snugly into the frame when the purse is closed.
The frame and bag are both in great condition with no damage. The velvet bag still has almost all of its nap and a covered button on the bottom. The purse is slightly over 3" long and the top is 1 3/4" in diameter....

Antique English Sterling Basket Pincushion * Circa 1830

This pretty sterling (tested) pincushion basket is about 180 years old and in outstanding condition. It is embossed and chased around the sides with flowers and scrolling designs. It has a twisted silver, movable handle. It was made in Birmingham, England in the early 19th century by Joseph Taylor, a prominent silversmith of that era. He was well known for sets of silver tools that included a basket pincushion.
