Antique Carved Ivory Canton Tatting Shuttle * Circa 1820
This beautiful tatting shuttle is carved of ivory and has a lovely old patina and grain pattern. It was made in China for English export in the early 19th century. It measures 2 5/8" long by 1 1/8" wide and was probably made for a sewing workbox. Both sides are deeply carved with Chinese figures on a landscape background featuring buildings, foliage and rocks. The condition is excellent with no chips or other damage and the points are intact. A similar example is shown on p. 84 of Nerylla Taunton's book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries"....

This beautiful tatting shuttle is carved of ivory and has a lovely old patina and grain pattern. It was made in China for English export in the early 19th century. It measures 3 3/8" long by almost 1" wide and was probably made for a sewing workbox. Both sides are deeply carved with Chinese landscape designs. This gorgeous ivory tatting shuttle is the largest and most ornate I've ever seen in this style. It is made from a singe, solid piece of ivory and both sides are deeply hand carved with figures in a landscape of Oriental buildings and foliage. It has a glossy old patina and a nice ivory grain pattern. It was made in China for English export in the early 19th century. It measures 3 5/8" long by 1 1/2" wide. The condition is outstanding without even the smallest chip to the intricate carving. There is no damage at all and the points are intact. Ornately Carved Ivory Antique Sheathed Stiletto * Circa1820
This beautiful antique stiletto is carved of real ivory with diagonal beaded and leaf designs through the center. It reverses to screw into the handle so that the point is protected. It has a nice patina and pronounced ivory grain. The condition of the ivory is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. It screws together perfectly in both directions. It measures almost 3" long closed and 4" open....

This little stiletto is carved of real ivory with leafy designs through the center. It reverses to screw into the handle so that the point is protected. It has the original patina and nice ivory grain. The condition of the ivory is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. It screws together perfectly in both directions. It measures a petite 2 3/8" long closed and 3 1/8" open. Some ivory pieces with similar carving are are shown on p. 88 of Nerylla Taunton's book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries" and she says they may have been carved in India for English export in the early 19th century...

Antique Pierced Ivory Fretwork Needle Book * Circa 1820
This little antique needle book was is carved of real ivory and is lined with red silk. It's carved and decorated on both sides with delicate pierced designs showing a tree and a bird with a house in the background. Inside are 4 finely twilled wool flannel "pages" for the needles. Aside from a small edge crack on the back, the condition is excellent with no chips or loss and it looks to be all original. The wool pages don't even have moth holes, and they still have a couple very fine needles. It dates to the early 19th century and measures 2 3/4" by 1 3/4" closed.
