This antique crochet hook allows for the removal of the hooks to change sizes. It was probably once part of a set with multiple hooks, though it just has the one now. The handle is beautifully carved of ivory with an acorn like finial at the top. The tiny steel hook has a faceted collar at the top and it screws into the handle. It's about the same as an American steel size 11. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage and the ivory has a nice old patina and grain pattern. It screws together securely and measures 4" long....

This wonderful crochet hook was hand carved of real ivory and the large size would make it perfect to crochet with heavy wool. The long length would also make it usable for doing the afghan or Tunisian stitch. The top is intricately carved with a spiral pattern and topped with a nice finial. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage and it was purchased in England. It measures 9 5/8" long and has lovely ivory grain and a glossy patina. The hook is about the same size as an American size K (7.00 mm)....

This hard to find knitting needle gauge is carved of real ivory. It is drilled with holes of different sizes so you would know the sizes of the unmarked knitting needles of the day. The sizes are all marked with engraved numbers that have been stained with a scrimshaw like technique. It is marked for knitting pins from size 1 down to size 20. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage and the ivory grain is nice. It measures 4 1/4" by 1 1/4"....

This beautifully made antique combination piece is smoothly carved of ivory and has a lovely old patina and grain pattern. It unfolds into a 6" ruler and has a slide out pencil in one end and a fold out penknife in the other. The hinge mechanisms and rivets are brass. All of the scales and numbering are etched into the surface (on both sides) and stained like scrimshaw. It is marked in inches. A button on one side pushes out a mechanical pencil. It works properly and twists out the lead for use. It uses a 1.4 mm lead. The steel penknife folds out for use and is sharp and intact with no rust or damage. The ivory has some surface hairline ...

This pretty little Victorian emery is carved of real ivory with turned concentric circles on both sides. It has a pale blue silk cushion (intact and original) and is stuffed with emery powder. The ivory is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage. It measures 1" in diameter. Nerylla Taunton shows similar ones in mother of pearl on p. 138 of her book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries". Emeries were used to sharpen and polish the steel needles of the age. Emery powder is a fine grit and the needles were pushed in and out the cushion several times. It also removed rust....

Antique Gold Inlaid Tortoise Shell Knotting / Tatting Shuttle *
This wonderful old knotting shuttle was used for making a knotted trim popular with French and English ladies between 1750 and 1800. It's carved from natural blond tortoise shell and held together with rivets. The post is matching shell. Both sides are inlaid all over with little solid 9 Ct gold stars (tested). Silver flowers are inlaid around the rivets. The condition is excellent with no cracks, chips or loss of the gold inlay and it measures 4 1/8" long by almost 1 3/8" wide. It glows with patina and the shell is beautifully translucent. Nerylla Taunton shows an 18th century portrait of a lady knotting on page 65 of her book Antique ...
