Antique Carved Horn Needle Case / Thimble Case * C1830

Antique Carved Horn Needle Case / Thimble Case * C1830
This fabulous antique is carved of horn and combines a needle case and thimble holder. The variety of patterns and quality of the carving is amazing. The thimble case unscrews from the needle case and holds an English sterling silver thimble (tested). It has an appled scrolling band and is in excellent condition, in round with no holes, repairs or other damage. It has a shield cartouche (not personalized) and is about an American size 9. The horn is polished on the high spots and is just lovely. The condition is excellent and the parts screw together securely. The needle case unscrews in the middle as well. Petite Antique Velvet Purse w/ Silver Coin Top * Hlmk1887

Petite Antique Velvet Purse w/ Silver Coin Top * Hlmk1887
This very unusual purse has a velvet bag (original) and a silver frame at the top. The top has been created using an actual silver coin, a George IV silver Sovereign dated 1821. The silver frame has the English sterling hallmark for Birmingham 1887 and the maker's mark for Joseph Whitten. Check out eBay #390147525462 and you'll see this coin being sold by itself. It has writing around the edge and fits snugly into the frame when the purse is closed. The frame and bag are both in great condition with no damage. Antique Mother of Pearl & Bone Tape Measure * C1870
This little antique tape measure has mother of pearl at the top and bottom and silver plated metal (I think) around the sides. The side is stamped "3 FT". It has the original woven tape marked in inches. The top has a little crank with a carved cow bone knob that winds in the tape. The condition of the case is excellent with no chips, dents or cracks. It measures slightly over 1" in diameter and the mother of pearl has nice luminescence. It's in perfect working order and the tape is intact with the original ring stop....

Antique English Sterling Basket Pincushion * Circa 1830
This pretty sterling (tested) pincushion basket is about 180 years old and in outstanding condition. It is embossed and chased around the sides with flowers and scrolling designs. It has a twisted silver, movable handle. It was made in Birmingham, England in the early 19th century by Joseph Taylor, a prominent silversmith of that era. He was well known for sets of silver tools that included a basket pincushion. The silver is in excellent condition with no dents, repairs or other damage. The velvet cushion is original and intact but the nap is rubbed. It measures almost 1 1/8" wide x 1 1/2" high (with the handle up). Some sets by Taylor w...

Antique Carved Ivory Canton Needle Case * Circa 1830
This ornate needle case is carved of real ivory with beautiful depth and detail. It's unusually small for a piece of this style and is decorated with a twining dragon, butterflies and a bird on a background of clouds. It was carved in China in the early 19th century for an English workbox. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage, and it screws together well. It measures 2 1/4" long. This style of needlecase is shown on p. 84 of Nerylla Taunton's book...

Antique Sterling Filigree Pattern Bodkin * Circa 1840

Antique Sterling Filigree Pattern Bodkin * Circa 1840
This beautiful bodkin or ribbon threader is sterling silver (tested) and is meant to be in the shape of a fish. It has embossed details on both sides and is in the filigree or snowflake pattern, a very popular one in England in the mid 19th century. The condition is nice with no breaks or damage. It measures 2 1/2" long and was probably once part of an etui or needlework set. I've shown a set at the bottom in the pattern it would have been a part of....
