This little antique needle book was is carved of real ivory and is lined and bound with pink silk. It's carved and decorated on both sides with delicate pierced leaf designs. Inside are 2 finely woven wool flannel "pages" for the needles.
Aside from a hairline crack at the edge on the back, the condition is excellent with no chips or loss. The wool pages have some very fine needles. It dates to the early 19th century and measures 2" by 1 3/8". Similar sewing tools in this style are shown on p. 86 of Nerylla Taunton's book "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries".
