Not for Sale
This rare and elegant needle case is Continental and the top is in the the form of a Roman lady. The bottom has a deeply embossed frieze of flowers. It's solid 18 Kt gold (tested and actually closer to 20 Kt). Both the top and the bottom have the French mark (ET) that indicates it was imported into Paris between 1864 & 1893. There are also some small numbers stamped on the sleeve.
The gold is partially frosted with a very rich finish. Aside from a couple of tiny dings on the side, the condition is excellent with no other damage and it measures 3 1/8" long. It fits together snugly and is solid and heavy (8.8 grams). She was featured on p. 7 of my newsletter on figural needle cases.
