This very unusual purse has a velvet bag (original) and a silver frame at the top. The top has been created using an actual silver coin, a George IV silver Sovereign dated 1821. The silver frame has the English sterling hallmark for Birmingham 1887 and the maker's mark for Joseph Whitten. It has writing around the edge and fits snugly into the frame when the purse is closed.
The frame and bag are both in great condition with no damage. The velvet bag still has almost all of its nap and a covered button on the bottom. The purse is slightly over 3" long and the top is 1 3/4" in diameter.
