This traveling set or pocket canteen contains solid silver folding dining utensils and is top quality. It might have been made for an officer in the military. The conical wood case is covered with leather and lined with the original dark blue watered silk. The fitted center section is covered with velvet and silk and lifts out. It contains a folding fork, folding spoon, folding knife, 2 part steel corkscrew and a carved elephant ivory salt shaker/toothpick holder. It sits in a solid silver cup/beaker which also lifts out. The fork, spoon and knife are solid silver (except for the steel knife blade) and are very heavy. The spoon weighs 50.2 grams, the fork 56.2 grams, the knife 46.9 grams and the cup 34.7 grams.

The silver utensils are stamped with the French Minerva head hallmark (800/1000 pure silver) used beginning in 1838. The beaker has 1st Minerva stamp for 950/1000 silver (purer than sterling) and the maker's mark for Dubois & Co. stamped on the bottom. They worked in Paris at 40 rue de Montmorency from 1857-1866. The silver pieces all have a nice, original patina and have never been monogrammed. Their condition is excellent with no dents, damage or repairs. The case measures 6" high and 3 1/4" in diameter and is also in great condition. It opens and closes properly with a push button clasp. The postage shown includes Registered shipping for non US addresses and insured shipping within the US.
